AOTM-Athlete of the Month: Don Arsenault lll June 2013
The June 2013 Athlete of the Month is Don Arsenault lll
Two years ago on June 6, 2011 Don was diagnosed with leukemia and will be running a Tough Mudder in Tampa in August with his Dad.
His father writes:
I would like to nominate my son Don Arsenault lll, Donnie was 15 when he was diagnosed with leukemia, he has undergone 2 years of chemo and still has 15 months to go. He’s one of the most positive people I know.
This year Don started running with me at the Northeast Delta Dental Shamrock Shuffle , we ran the Emergency Service Challenge in Maine and most recently the St. Joseph Health Care Ribfest 5 Miler race in Merrimack, NH.
Donnie signs up for as many of your races as he can, we try to run them as a family to support Donnie’s efforts to get his body back from all the chemo.
Donnie will be graduating high school this Christmas and starting college with the hopes of entering the military as soon as his treatment is over (Sept 20 2014).
Even while going through all of these daily/weekly/monthly treatments he noticed a need to bring some joy to the other kids at Dartmouth Pediatric Cancer center. Last Christmas he raised toys and money, enough to purchase over 500 toys to give to the kids for their holiday party. He hopes to do even more this year.
Donnie is a great example of what a positive attitude can do!
Donnie’s 1st race, he’s #1930, the one with the huge smile! |
