ATHLETES of the WEEK: Sam Wood and Megan Skidmore
Male: Win a race while running with your dog is no easy feat so Laconia’s Sam Wood, and his dog Tucker, deserve the spotlight this week. Wood beat a field of 255 runners and walkers at the My Dog’s Are Barking 5K at Derryfield Park, Manchester, a race that allowed runners and walkers to participate alongside their dogs. Wood finished in 16 minutes, 56 seconds, the only sub-17:00 finisher. Not bad when you have a leash tied around your waist for 3.1 miles!!
Female: Prior to 2013 Intervale’s Megan Skidmore concentrated her triathlon racing to sprint distance races. This year she decided to try Olympic distance events and the change seems to have done here well. Skidmore was top female at the Pitch Pine Olympic distance race at White Lake State Park in Tamworth. It was Skidmore’s second Olympic distance win this year to go along with a number of sprint wins.
