CMC Athlete of the Month: June 2017
Shawn O’Neil
Shawn O’Neil of Danville, NH is named as the Male CMC Athlete of the Month for June. It was not his efficient swim strokes, amazing speed on the bike nor his incredible run that Shawn displayed at the 2XU White Mountains Triathlon that earned him this honor. Shawn did not win the race, nor even place in his age group, but he had the guts to attempt his first ever triathlon! Shawn did not just compete in the Sprint distance triathlon on Saturday, he was motivated and strong enough to return the very next day to complete the Olympic distance race as well.
Shawn is not just a new triathlete, but he is new to running. Having just started working out less than a year ago he has run nearly every Millennium Running event since and currently ranks 238th out of 6,279 competitors in the 2017 Points Chase. Keep up the great work Shawn!
Holly Reese
Holly Reese of Somerville, MA is named the Female CMC Athlete of the Month for June.
Not only did Holly win the 2017 Immediate Care RibFest 5 Miler against some of the finest athletes in New England, she set a course record in the process! Representing the Battle Road Track Club out of Boston, Holly ran an average of 5:34 per mile to win the 5-mile race in 27:48, over 1 minute ahead of the second-place woman and crushing the course record by over 50 seconds.
Every month, we recognize and celebrate the achievements of two members of the community. One male and one female athlete, as nominated by their peers, will be chosen to be honored as the Catholic Medical Center Athlete of the Month. We are not just looking at those who consistently finish at the front of the pack but also at those who demonstrate exemplary character and are a positive influence on their community. These qualities include, but are not limited to, dedication, commitment, leadership, and perseverance. If you know of someone who you would like to nominate as athlete of the month, please fill out the form.
