Jack & June Mortimer Memorial Scholarship
As the Millennium Mile Road Race grew in popularity, the co-founders, Andy Downin, Matt Downin and John Mortimer established a scholarship fund from the proceeds of the race. The mission of the yearly scholarship is to help defray the college tuition costs for one of New Hampshire’s deserving, college-bound student-athletes. Each year, proceeds from the Millennium Mile Road Race go directly to build the scholarship fund.
After John Mortimer’s mother lost a battle with cancer in April of 2004, the Millennium Mile Scholarship was named in her honor as the June E. Mortimer Memorial Scholarship. Following his father’s passing to cancer only 2 ½ years later in December of 2006; the scholarship was yet again rename the scholarship as the Jack & June Mortimer Memorial Scholarship. Jack and June were huge supporters of their son’s running career. Moreover, they both loved the idea that the proceeds from the race would benefit a young student-athlete’s education. We hope to grow the scholarship every year so that many young students may benefit from the enriching experience of a higher education and collegiate athletics.
