Athlete of the Week – 7/15 – 7/21/14
Andrew Huebner, Portsmouth –
Two outstanding performances highlighted Huebner’s recent efforts.
On June 14th Huebner won the state’s largest 10K, the Market Square Day 10K in his hometown.
Eight days later, on June 22 Huebner ran one of the fastest marathons ever for a New Hampshire runner when he finished 15th at the Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.
Huebner finished Grandma’s in 2 hours, 17 minutes, 5 seconds, a time that is good enough to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon trials.
Denise Sandahl, Bow
Sandahl also had an outstanding week of running.
On June 15 Sandahl was top female at the Ribfest Five Miler in Merrimack, which served as the 2014 New England Five Mile Championship.
On June 21 Sandahl took on the unique challenge of the Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race.
Sandahl finished fifth overall amongst the women and joined New Hampton’s Justin Freeman as winners of the coveted Crossan Cup as top New Hampshire runners (named after four-time winner Gary Crossan, a New Hampshire native).
Millennium Running’s Athlete of the Week is given to a male and female that have excelled in our sport over the past week. An Athlete of the Year will be chosen from all of the weekly winners at the end of the calendar year.
